Learn how researchers, institutions, and the public can inform NIH about potential research misconduct violations.
How to Report a Concern About Research Misconduct
Please report any concerns related to research misconduct that may impact the integrity of NIH supported research.
Allegations may be made directly to:
- ORI at AskORI@hhs.gov
- NIH Extramural Research Integrity at NIHResearchIntegrity@mail.nih.gov
Please provide any specific and detailed information you may have regarding the allegations. Note occurrences of research misconduct must be brought to the attention of an institution or HHS within six years for handling (per regulation (PDF)).
Contacts are also available for reporting concerns on other topics.
Inquiries About Specific Research Integrity Violations
In general, NIH does not discuss potential cases of research misconduct violations related to individual grant applications, awards, or supported principal investigators, or whether or not research misconduct may have occurred.
The HHS Office of Research Integrity (ORI) handles allegations of research misconduct. ORI is the only HHS office with the authority to make findings of research misconduct on individuals for research funded by NIH. Information on individuals found to have committed research misconduct is made available on the ORI Web Site and the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts as appropriate.
For specific questions about organizations and individuals who may not receive NIH funding, please visit the System for award Management’s search page.
Questions from the media may be directed to the NIH Office of Extramural Research press group OERPressGroup@mail.nih.gov (see this site for more information for the media).
